What determines your EV charging cost?

The cost of charging an electric car depends on a handful of factors, most of which vary by country:

Electricity rate — the price per kWh, which differs between home charging, public charging, and rapid charging, and varies by electricity provider and tariff.
Battery size — measured in kWh, this determines how much energy a full charge requires.
Efficiency — how many miles or km your car travels per kWh, which depends on the vehicle model and is tested using different standards in different countries (for example, WLTP in the UK versus EPA in the US).
Charging speed — the power of the charger (in kW) determines how long a charge takes, separate from how much it costs.
