Schengen day tracker — 90/180 rule

This tool applies to non-EU/EEA nationals visiting the Schengen Area on a short-stay (Type C) visa or visa-free — including British passport holders. It does not apply if you hold a long-stay visa (Type D) or a Schengen residence permit. Only count trips to Schengen countries — see the country list below. For the authoritative calculator, see the official EU short-stay calculator.

The Schengen 90/180-day rule limits non-EU visitors to 90 days in the Schengen Area within any rolling 180-day window. The window moves forward every day — it is not a fixed period that resets on a set date. Both your arrival day and departure day count as full days in the zone. Days only become available again as older trips fall out of the trailing 180-day window, so leaving and re-entering the Schengen Area does not reset your count.

    Which countries count as Schengen?

These 29 countries count toward your 90 days:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

These do not count — even though they are in Europe:

    UK, Ireland, Cyprus.

If you hold a long-stay visa (Type D) or a residence permit for a Schengen country, this rule does not apply to your stay in that country. If in doubt, check the official EU short-stay calculator.
