A radar chart — sometimes called a spider chart or web chart — plots multiple variables on axes radiating from a centre point. The shape of the polygon reveals the overall profile at a glance: a regular shape means balanced values, a lopsided one reveals where the highs and lows are.
Radar charts work well for comparing skill sets across people or roles, scoring product features against competitors, tracking performance metrics before and after a change, or visualising any set of named categories that share the same scale — RPG character stats being a classic example.
You need at least 3 axes to form a recognisable shape — with only 2, a radar chart is just a line. Most charts work best with somewhere between 5 and 8 axes; beyond about 10-12, the chart becomes cluttered and harder to read at a glance. This tool supports up to 12.
